Josh Brookes enjoyed yet another productive outing at the Isle of Man TT and, in his fourth year at the event, he set a new personal best lap of 131.745mph on his way to a best ever finish of fifth in the Senior.

Not only was this the best ever lap by a Norton, it was also the best ever lap by an Australian.

“It’s been a really good week but I’ve took things at a slower pace and done it my way because that’s how I feel most comfortable but I’d like to have been quicker to be fair. I know I can be quicker and there’s more time out there. On what I’ve done, I’m happy with how I played out the week, I haven’t taken any risks more than what’s naturally associated. To do a 131.7mph lap is a step better than last year although if have known before the week we were going to have this much track time and this much good weather, I would have thought the progression of the bike would have been stronger. It has improved as last year I was at my absolute max to do a 130.9 and this year, I felt like I rode in a similar fashion to do a 131.7. Things have moved on, how much of that is in the bike and how much of that is in me, we’ll never know. I’m pleased though, it’s the fastest Norton lap, it’s my fastest ever lap and although fifth in the Senior isn’t anything to turn your head at, it’s a good result. I finished one place behind Michael Dunlop and he’s probably the best rider here currently across all the classes. To be in that sort of company, I’m proud of what I’ve done and it scares the shit out of me so I can’t expect to do any more than what we’ve done.”

I’m pleased to let you all know that I have re-signed with Norton for 2018.   I’m really looking forward to another year with them because it will be my second consecutive year on the same bike, following the 2 year absence. I’m excited to go back to the Isle of Man and race again and I hope to be able to improve my best lap time and race positions.

I really enjoyed working with the Norton bike, brand and whole team last year so I’m looking forward to being part of that again. Last year there were alot of changes to the bike in the lead up to the TT, whereas this year it should be much easier for me and the team. The changes made this year will be more fine tuning and adapting some small updates of the bike, rather than the bigger changes that I was making last year to accustom myself to a brand new motorbike.

That makes it more exciting to think about this years races. It should allow us to be in a better position and allow me to focus on the results that I can achieve. Also this year my BSB Crew Chief Stewart Winton will be working with Norton and myself in the build up to the event and during the event, so that should add another element of improving the chances of success.

This week it’s straight from Cadwell Park BSB to the Isle of Man Classic TT. Where I will make my debut on the Wiz Norton Rotary and the Team Winfield Paton.

This is just moments before I set off down Bray Hill on the Norton Rotary. I eased into it with 2 practice laps. So cool

I also rode 2 laps on this Paton 500, it’s great to imagine the riders of years gone by and what it was like for them racing these bikes

Was great to see all the crowd waving me on to 8th. I think I had the most fun of the people who didn’t make the podium.
